Creative Summer Music Camp 2026

All about our summer music camp for ages 5 to 12

1.5

Encore, encore! We are still reveling in the high energy from our Creative Summer Music Camp two weeks ago, Dalcroze Takes the Stage 2026. Our students met each day, Monday through Saturday, for 1.5 hours. We began each session with movement, delving into the story of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf. After a snack break, students set to work on set pieces and costumes for the Saturday showing.

Our week also included enrichment opportunities. Tuesday, we welcomed Summerhays Music for a fun instrument petting zoo. Students each got to try playing a trombone, clarinet, flute, cello, and violin. The cello was among the most popular, but everyone was able to make a sound on each instrument! Thursday, we were able to visit the Utah Opera Production Studios, including their costume shop, vast storage for thousands of costume pieces, and props workshop. This got students excited to put on their own performance.

After two dress rehearsals and final notes, the week ended with an informal showing of our work for the week. Students enjoyed getting into character and bringing to life every part of the story. They absorbed a lot about rehearsing, blocking positions, stage presence and stagecraft in one week. The camp was also bilingual in English and French, and some students had no prior French exposure. Many new words and phrases were learned and practiced. We look forward to putting these new skills to work again next summer!
