Members of our community and visitors (welcome!) will be aware of our Dalcroze Eurhythmics program for kids. Our young Dalcroze students begin by listening deeply, refining their kinetic responses, and forming imaginative associations with the music they hear. They first begin notation of rhythms, and then move to pitch notation in treble and bass clefs. Several years in, they are singing on scale degrees in various keys and then beginning to understand harmonic structure and chords.
Did you know that, parallel to this children’s program, we offer a monthly course for adults? Who is this for and what levels are offered? Our adult students come from a variety of backgrounds. Many are musicians, many teach music in various forms. There are also those with a background in dance. And, those who simply avail themselves of this opportunity for personal enrichment. The goal of the class is to be relevant to all of these audiences, as it seeks to make connections between music and movement in a friendly, discovery-based environment, in the spirit of the work of Émile Jaques-Dalcroze.
For those curious about pursuing Dalcroze teacher training, this is an opportunity to get your feet wet. The course aims to cover over one year a majority of the elements typically presented in the first summer of Eurhythmics (at a training program). Students take home lesson plans, repertoire, and other printed materials. Enrolled students may review class videos for home practice and study.
Interested in a trial class? For 2024-25, the course meets the first Monday of each month at 8-9pm. Email mira@rythmiquemusicschool.com if you would like to join us.
